Train blamed for Wanilla blaze

Authorities say a fire on lower Eyre Peninsula in South Australia on Tuesday was sparked by a train. The blaze in the Wanilla Forest region was tackled by more than 80 firefighters and four water bombers.

Washaway between Crystal Brook and Peterborough

Heavy rain has washed away part of the rail track between Crystal Brook and Peterborough in South Australia and left other parts covered in mud. The Indian Pacific was due in Broken Hill in the far west of New South Wales on Friday but has been diverted through Melbourne for its trip to Sydney.

Train hits 4WD at Salisbury North

THE occupants of a four-wheel-drive that stalled on a northern suburbs rail crossing last night fled the vehicle just before it was hit by a train. Police said the incident happened on a level crossing on Bagsters Rd at Salisbury North about 11.15pm and that no on had been hurt.

Floods have cut the main Perth – Sydney railway line in the North East of South Australia. The flooding occured approximately 54 kilometres from the town of Yunta, washing away several sections of track and leaving trains stranded either side.
