Man survives being hit by freight train at Islington

A man hit by a train at Islington survived the impact but is fighting for his life in hospital.

The fully laden 1km-long train was passing through the Islington rail yards about 5.30am when the man, who was laying between the tracks, sat up and was hit.

Carriages had to be separated so paramedics could get to the man.

He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with critical injuries and police are still examining the accident scene .
