$8m upgrade for busy stations in south
Two railway stations in the southern suburbs will be upgraded in an $8 million investment by the State Government.
Transport Minister Patrick Conlon yesterday announced the Hallett Cove and Hallett Cove Beach stations – among the busiest on the network – would be refurbished and improved.
The multimillion-dollar make-over is part of the State Government’s $2 billion investment in public transport infrastructure.
“The upgrading of stations across the network is a key part of the unprecedented investment the Rann Government is making in our public transport system,” Mr Conlon said.
“We will be starting with what are two of our busiest stations on the Noarlunga line and provide great improvements to the comfort, safety, amenity, security and accessibility of the facilities. This is another step in the public transport revolution under way right across Adelaide and will be the first in a series of station upgrades we will undertake on the network.”
The upgrades, to be based on the recent revamp of the Oaklands station, will include:
ARCHITECTURALLY designed canopy shelters.
PLATFORM realignment to reduce height and distance gaps between platforms and trains.
ACCESS to ramps and hand rails.
IMPROVED lighting and CCTV and better walking and cycling links.
The provision of additional car parking also will be investigated.
Work is expected to start in August and be finished by the end of the year.
Mr Conlon said work also would begin on upgrading the Belair railway line at the end of the month.
“We are also continuing a refurbishment program of TransAdelaide’s 3000 and 3100-class fleet, which includes a replacement of more than 900 windows,” he said.
“Over the next decade Adelaide’s public transport network will be transformed into a vibrant, state-of-the-art and sustainable system, providing faster, cleaner, more frequent and efficient services for commuters.”
