Closing time for Outer Harbor line
The Outer Harbour train line will be closed between Woodville and Outer Harbour for four months, starting from October.
The closure will allow for maintenance of the Port Adelaide rail bridge and various level crossings in the first stage of the electrification of the line, Transport Department spokesman Ross Stargatt said.
He expected the line would close from mid-to late October, however no “definitive date has been set at this point.”
Around 40 passenger trains run along the Outer Harbor line daily, with more than 3000 passengers using the affected section each day.
Mr Stargatt said a bus service would replace the train services, although he was unsure if every train service would be substituted.
“We will be making every effort to replicate the train timetable with the bus service,” he said.
“Obviously there will be a difference between using the train and the bus which uses the road network, but this is still being finalised.”
He said commuters would receive at least one months notice of the bus replacement service timetable, prior to the line closing.
Information would also be sent to residents and placed on the train network to assist commuters.
Level crossings at Cheltenham Pde, Fussell Plc, Wirra Drv, Fletcher St, Strathfield Tce and Golfcourse Rd would also be upgraded during the line closure.
“The work will involve new sleepers and bitumen resurfacing, to improve the level crossings for motorists and train services.”
Train will continue to run along the Outer Harbor line between Woodville and Adelaide and along the Grange line.
