New southern line is on track

Work has started on Adelaide’s newest rail line, a $291 million 5.5km extension of the Noarlunga line to Seaford.

Contractors are working on the first detailed geotechnical surveys of the extension, preparing the site for construction from mid next year.

The first trains are expected to run on the extension in 2013, in line with the completion of the electrification of the Noarlunga line.

Funding for the project was announced in May as part of the Federal Government’s infrastructure spending in the 2009 Budget.
