Noarlunga railway line upgrade starts
Work on the first stage of the Noarlunga rail line upgrade will begin tonight.
The upgrade is the first step towards electrification of the Noarlunga line, which is expected to be completed in 2013.
The line will be closed from Brighton to the city from tonight until the first service Monday, and from Friday night, December 4 until first service Monday, December 7. It will also be closed on Saturday night, December 12, until the first service Sunday morning, December 13.
On both Friday nights the last train service from Noarlunga to the city will depart at 7pm, and the last city to Noarlunga service at 7:02pm. On Saturday, December 12, the last train from Noarlunga to the city will depart at 6:25 pm and from the city to Noarlunga at 6pm.
Train services will continue to run between Noarlunga Centre and Brighton with substitute bus services operating between Brighton and Adelaide.
Substitute bus timetables have been letterbox dropped to 35,000 homes in the immediate area along and are also available at http://www.adelaidemetro.com.au or by calling 8210 1000.
The track across the Victoria St level crossing at Goodwood will also be upgraded during the closures. The crossing will be closed to motorists and pedestrians from 7.30pm tonight until 5.30am Monday. Detours will be in place.
Upgrade works for the rest of the Noarlunga line are in planning stages but are expected to be completed in 2011.
