As Monty Python fans will be well aware, nobody expects a Spanish Inquisition, however Adelaide tram users can expect the arrival of the State Government’s Spanish Acquisitions here in the Festival City.

Adelaide’s new trams are being modified in Melbourne before going into service over Christmas and the New Year.

Six trams built for use in the Spanish city of Madrid are instead headed for Adelaide as part of a $36 million fleet deal announced today by Transport Minister Pat Conlon.

The Sunday Mail understands the Government is close to sealing a deal to import up to six trams from Madrid to run on the City-to-Bay tramline. The French-made Alstom Citadis trams are scheduled to be in service by December.

The Sunday Mail today reported a new tram fleet for Adelaide, with a number of new Spanish cars being sent to the Adelaide system to boost our current fleet. It was reported these trams will be Alstom Citadis 5-section trams, built in France for the Madrid light rail network.
