Repair crews may have to wait until Sunday before they can start work on a section of the Adelaide-to-Darwin rail line washed away by floodwaters. The Ghan passenger train was forced to turn back to Darwin yesterday as a result of the damage.

Passengers almost halfway through a train journey across Australia have had to turn back because of flooding in the desert. The Ghan, travelling from Darwin to Adelaide, was 230 kilometres north of Alice Springs when it came across a flooded section of track.
