Teen hit by train at Mitchell Park

A YOUTH narrowly escaped death today when he was hit by a train as he retrieved his i-Pod from a suburban railway line.

The 16-year-old Eynesbury College student was waiting for a city-bound train at the Mitchell Park railway station about 11.30 am when he dropped his i-Pod onto the railway line. (more…)

Conlon denies scrapping Outer Harbor train

TRANSPORT Minister Patrick Conlon quashed rumours his department is planning to scrap the Outer Harbor train in favour of a dedicated tramline.

Three separate sources have told the Sunday Mail the Government is considering converting the Outer Harbor line into a tram-only service instead of running both trams and trains down the line as was promised in the 2008 Budget. (more…)

Few back Adelaide tram extension

PLANS to extend the city tramline to the western suburbs appear to have little traction with voters, a Sunday Mail poll has revealed.

A survey of public transport users found 58 per cent of respondents did not consider the State Government’s policy of extending the tram system into the western suburbs and buying extra trams was a public transport priority up from 55 per cent on a similar poll last year. (more…)

Transport ‘plan’ looks a bit thin

LABOR’S “comprehensive” plan for public transport has been revealed as a one-page map in a Budget Estimates Committee hearing.

Opposition transport spokesman Duncan McFetridge and Transport Minister Patrick Conlon clashed heatedly over the issue when Mr McFetridge said a Freedom of Information application had resulted in the Liberals being given a map. (more…)

Transport ticket system bids

OVERSEAS companies are among the 13 which have expressed interest in supplying a multimillion-dollar ticketing system for Adelaide’s public transport system.
